I’ve been experimenting with capturing water droplets and this is by no means as good as I wanted it. It probably took a hundred shots for me to get to this point. I tried various surfaces and amounts of water until I settled on using a mirror and standing water as well as falling.
To do this you need lots of light, a flash (an external would be better although this was on-camera), a fast shutter speed, a high ISO and timing. The two hardest things are getting the plane of focus right (it’s off in this shot) and hitting the shutter release at the right time. Sixty percent of the results were of standing water and thin air.
I’m going to try it again, so expect more. Although I will try to make them different so as not to bore you. I want to be able to do what this guy tobyloc does on flickr.
