This is the Australian War Memorial at Hyde Park Corner, London. The wall is set with 24,000 names of the home towns of Australian men and women who served during the two world wars. Superimposed on these place names are 47 battle sites, representing theatres of war where Australians served.
I stood there for some time watching this man slowly search through the names. I suspect he was looking for his home town, or the home town of a relation.
I did consider converting this image to black and white, but in the end decided it didn’t need it. The only vibrant colour is the man’s shirt and I quite like the contrast of that against greyness of the wall.
